GENERAL (A) ENGINEERING CONTRACTOR
EXAM PREPARATION PROGRAM

A General Engineering Contractor is a contractor whose principal contracting business is in connection with fixed works requiring specialized engineering knowledge and skill, including the following divisions or subjects: irrigation, drainage, water power, water supply, flood control, inland waterways, harbors, docks and wharves, shipyards and ports, dams and hydroelectric projects, levees, river control and reclamation works, railroads, highways, streets and roads, tunnels, airports and airways, sewers and sewage disposal plants and systems, waste reduction plants, bridges, overpasses, underpasses, and other similar works, pipelines and other systems for the transmission of petroleum and other liquids or gaseous substances, parks, playgrounds and other recreational works, refineries, chemical plants and similar industrial plants requiring specialized engineering knowledge and skill, powerhouses, power plants and other utilities plants and installations, mines and metallurgical plants, land leveling and earthmoving projects, excavating, grading, trenching, paving and surfacing work and cement and concrete works in connection with the above mentioned fixed works.

General Information: Trade - Course Materials

The General Engineering Manual briefly covers the major topics of the State exam including Concrete, Rough and Finish Carpentry, Masonry, Electrical, and HVAC. The manual also contains summaries from the Uniform Building Code and National Electrical Code. The last section of the General Engineering Manual covers the Health and Safety Orders.

The Excavation & Grading Handbook is an essential part of the General Engineering course. The Handbook and the accompanying Excavation and Grading lecture contain vital information for passing the State exam.

The General Engineering Lectures follow along with the topics addressed in the manual and include a section on Math. The Health and Safety Lecture covers the Health and Safety Orders at the end of the General Engineering Manual.

The General Engineering Practice Exams: Please be sure that you study all of the practice exams, it is important to read and understand each question, and read every word of the explanations.

It is necessary to learn the principles behind the question because the State’s questions may be worded differently.

General Information: Law and Business - Course Materials

The Law and Business Manual is conveniently broken into four separate chapters, each with its own Glossary of Terms. The manual is written in layperson’s language and includes sample forms as well as summaries and checklists to help prepare you for the State Exam. There are no complicated legal codes to decipher.

The Law and Business Lectures cover each chapter of the Law and Business Manual and the Law and Business Review questions in the back of the manual. All of the lectures are in both audio and video formats.
